1. Insufficient Titanium Alloy Purity 

Typical scenario: Commercial titanium alloys (e.g., TC4/Ti-6Al-4V) contain 5-6% aluminium and 4% vanadium as alloying elements, exhibiting slightly lower corrosion resistance compared to pure titanium (Grade 2 or higher).

 

Corrosion mechanism: Prolonged exposure to high-chloride environments (e.g., saline solutions or acidic food residues) may trigger localised pitting corrosion at aluminium/vanadium-rich zones, manifesting as microscopic rust spots.

 

 

2. Surface Contamination & Passive Film Damage

Manufacturing residues: Iron particle embedment from ferrous tool contact during blade production can induce galvanic corrosion between titanium and iron.

 

Improper cleaning: Use of chlorinated bleach or strong acidic detergents degrades the native titanium oxide layer (TiO₂), compromising corrosion resistance.
