Can PP material be used as welding material for ultrasonic welding machines?
PP, also known as polypropylene, is a thermoplastic plastic with characteristics such as chemical resistance, elasticity and toughness, fatigue resistance, and heat resistance. The application range is broad, such as the automotive parts industry, industrial equipment, daily consumer goods and some other items that we see in daily life are all made of PP. It is worth noting that the melting point of PP is as high as 189 ℃. The lunch box made of PP can be heated in the microwave, but the box cover is made of PE and cannot be placed in the microwave.
Polypropylene material is difficult to weld due to its low elastic coefficient and easy attenuation of sound wave vibration. However, in reality, it is not impossible to operate it. To achieve polypropylene welding, it is necessary to understand customer needs, adjust the material, shape, parameters of the Linggao ultrasonic welding machine, and other factors according to the needs.
① Injection Molding Process Conditions for Polypropylene
If polypropylene is stored properly without drying treatment, the melting temperature needs to reach 220-275 ℃. It is worth noting that it should not exceed 275 ℃, otherwise it will damage the material.
Because the degree of crystallization of polypropylene is mainly determined by the mold temperature, the equipment mold temperature is required to reach 40-80 ℃, and it is recommended to use 50 ℃ as the most appropriate temperature. The injection pressure can reach 1800bar, and the injection speed can be adjusted according to the actual product. Generally, using high-speed injection molding can minimize the internal pressure. If there are defects in the product, low-speed injection molding at high temperatures should be used.
On the runner and gate, if on the cold runner, the diameter range of the runner is generally 4-7mm. In this case, it is recommended to use a circular injection port and gate, and all types of gates can be used. The general gate diameter range is 1-1.5mm, but 0.7mm gates can also be used.
For edge gates, the minimum gate depth should be half the wall thickness, and the minimum gate width should be at least twice the wall thickness. Polypropylene materials can fully use a hot runner system.
② Chemical and Physical Properties of Polypropylene
When the temperature of polypropylene is above 0 ℃, the material will become very brittle. Therefore, when processing polypropylene, it is generally necessary to add irregular copolymers of 1-4% ethylene or clamp type copolymers with higher ethylene content.
Copolymer type polypropylene materials have lower thermal distortion temperature (100 ℃), low transparency, low glossiness, low rigidity, and stronger impact strength. The strength of polypropylene increases with the increase of ethylene content. The softening temperature of PP is 150 ℃, and the material has good surface stiffness and scratch resistance, so there is no problem of environmental stress cracking.
Polypropylene is usually modified by adding glass fibers, metal additives, or thermoplastic rubber. Both homopolymer and copolymer type PP materials have excellent resistance to moisture absorption, acid alkali corrosion, and dissolution. However, it has no resistance to solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons (such as benzene) and chlorinated hydrocarbons (carbon tetrachloride).
