What factors should be considered in the design of ultrasonic welding molds?

Jun 04, 2024

The design of ultrasonic molds should consider the following factors:

1. Product requirement: Determine the service life and wear rate of ultrasonic welding molds to determine which metal to use.

2. The shape of the product: what welding process is used, the size of the mold, the pressure transmission area, the possible deformation of the product during fusion, what power is required, and what kind of function.

3. The plastic properties of the product: determine the working range of the mold, which piece of work should receive ultrasonic energy, and the form, position, and size of the energy transmission wire.

4. The success of after-sales service welding depends on the following factors:

① Product shape: Different shapes, wall thicknesses, and plastic materials determine the power and characteristics required for ultrasonic welding machines.

② Interface design: Generally, suggestions are provided by ultrasonic machine suppliers. To achieve the desired effect, professional design should be adopted according to different welding requirements, wall thickness, plastics, etc., especially in the development stage of injection molds. After multiple replacements of injection molds, the lifespan of the molds will be reduced and deformation and burrs will occur, causing significant losses. Suppliers can foresee the difficulties and solutions during plastic part welding, and providing excellent design can help achieve results, saving time and related costs in replacing injection molds.

③ High quality ultrasonic welding machine: High quality machines mean mature machine design, stable and durable performance, and standardized components that can still be supplemented after many years.

④ Molds that can fully leverage welding benefits: Molds can improve welding efficiency and provide high-quality and reliable products and services.

Calculate the surface dimensions and punching force of the mold. After completing the above work, the surface dimensions of the mold have been basically calculated. The punching force can be calculated using some professional software or using simple calculation methods. Good mold materials can extend the service life of ultrasonic welding molds. Commonly used materials include titanium alloy molds, 7075 aluminum alloy molds, and 6061 ordinary aluminum.
